Roberts & Ross
A New Breed of Results-Oriented Publishing

Editing/Writing

Let’s face it, anyone can put words on paper, self-publish those words and call it a book. Books should increase your credibility, offer you a platform, open doors for you to create an on-going revenue stream for you and be a very positive experience for you.

Editing is a major component to a good book. If you have a good idea and want to write a book, you are an author. But authors aren’t necessarily writers, and that’s okay. At Roberts & Ross we make sure that your book is well written—and while that might seem obvious, it’s not in today’s publishing market.

It’s like this. Remember Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald? Their books were flawless masterpieces because they had one of the best editors in the business, Max Perkins. We bring high-level, quality editing back to the publishing industry.

Our emphasis is on quality, and no book that bears the Ross & Roberts name is shoddy. We refuse to publish badly written books with tons of mistakes.

The heart of the any book is how well it is written. This includes the flow of the book, consistency throughout the book, sentence structure, use of grammar, and a whole host of other aspects our professional editing staff ensures is done well. We want to make sure your book is worthy of the effort you put into writing it. Your book represents you and we want to make sure it does that in the best way possible.

How Good is your Manuscript?

When we receive your manuscript, it first goes through an editorial review. That tells our editing staff the level of work that must be done. We discuss the work with you, and then your book is handed over to the appropriate editor who will ensure the job is done well.

The reading public is hard and unforgiving. We don’t want your book to be ridiculed for being badly edited. Part of your editorial analysis fee is a phone consultation. The objective of that consultation is to educate authors as to how the market might view and critique their book—for many authors, this will be the first time that an industry professional (someone outside of friends and family) has taken a serious look at the book. Secondly, with the hundreds of submissions received every month, we have found that offering this valuable perspective to authors gives our staff an effective method of determining which books have the best opportunity to become part of Roberts & Ross family of books.

Put frankly, we know that to keep our reputation strong, we must be very selective with the authors we choose to represent. We also want to work with authors who are serious about success. Our success really does depend on your success!

In additional to our distribution network, Roberts & Ross’s personally involved and supported editing differentiates us in the publishing market. Don’t be fooled by others that promise professional editing only to outsource it, or just tell you what you want to hear.

Sample Editing Services Include

  • Cursory Editing- professional editorial analysis.
  • Copy Editing - cleans up grammar and punctuation.
  • Line Editing - literally looks at sentences and words. Line editors make sure the actual sentences read well and that the words being used are all correct.
  • Content Editing —this is the highest level of editing (also called developmental editing). It can range from guiding the author as to what he or she needs to do to make the book stronger to completely overhauling the book.

Ghost Writing

There are some individuals out there who either don’t have the time or the inclination to write their own book—but they have an amazing idea that the public should know about.

Good ghost writers are a rare breed of people. They are writers who love to write books but who are happy to watch their authors reach for the stars. Good ghost writers already have one or two books of their own published so they don’t need to see their name on the book spine.

Because of the close relationship between author and ghost writer, it is not an inexpensive proposition. And because the quality of the relationship and the considerable expense that occurs, Roberts & Ross takes great care to match the perfect ghostwriter with an author, that unique individual who captures the essence of your voice and ideas in your book.
